Those brass screws like to break. I have carefully ground the remaining 1/2 of the broken screw head off with a dremel tool, removed the other screw and patch box. You will then be able to remove the broken screw shank with a good pair of plyers or small vice grips.I did a sort of "halfway house" by milling the slots, but then cutting the dovetails with a three square file with one face ground off.. The bit that gave me nightmares was brazing on the bayonet bar and sling lug.. i used the last of my "old" silver solder on the bar, but had to use new stuff on the sling lug.May 14, 2014. #12. The Italian guns are, in general, very good quality; more-so than the Spanish creations. The barrels, though, on both are as about as good as they get on a factory gun. The weak link seems to be the flint locks they come with (both makers). they are mostly good/very good but are often very, very bad.Powder charge. Nitro (hard) card. Shotload. Thin overshot card. Full fiber cushion wad*. *The cushion wad needs to be SATURATED (the wetter and heavier, the better) with oil. I like to use olive oil. The load seems to shine best when used in cylinder bored guns. If you have a mold where bullets stick, take 0000 steel wool and gently polish the edges of the cavities. The barrels are held onto the frame by a knurled bolt (?) that uses an allen wrench.Weighs just over 8lbs, so it's quite handy for a double barrel gun. Barrel swivel detents are nice and solid. Pietta has much improved their guns in the last several years but for some weird reason, decided to put an odd 8.5" barrel on their 1861. The Uberti is the proper 7.5" length.
